Elsewise is an annual publication.
Submission Guidelines
Dates: We are currently accepting submissions up to 30 November 2026 for all writing. We are accepting art submissions up to 31 December.
Elsewise Magazine is a new publication of speculative fiction, poetry and art. We are interested in work that looks beyond the familiar and asks what else might be possible.
For our first issue, Elsewise will appear as an insert in Blue Angel Landing 4.
We welcome submissions from established writers and artists as well as those publishing for the first time. We are interested in how you answer the question “What if?” and what larger context your answer implies.
Audience: our audience is a broad off-and-online audience.
AI Policy
Elsewise Magazine publishes human-created work only.
We do not accept work containing generative AI-created content, including text, poetry, images or other creative material generated by artificial intelligence.
We may ask contributors to confirm that submitted work is their own human-created work.
What We Publish
We accept:
- Speculative fiction, including Science fiction, Fantasy and Alternative Histories
- Speculative poetry
- Speculative visual art
Topics: We are open to any subject or theme that lends itself to speculative fiction, poetry or art.
We are particularly interested in work that explores possibilities rather than simply following the conventions of a particular genre.
Fiction
We accept short stories up to 3,000 words.
We welcome all forms of speculative fiction, including science fiction, fantasy, alternate and alternative histories, dystopian and utopian fiction, weird fiction, slipstream and work that crosses or ignores genre boundaries.
There is no particular style or subject we are looking for. If your story takes us somewhere else, we want to see it.
Poetry
There is no maximum length for poetry submissions.
We welcome individual poems as well as longer or experimental works. Poetry does not have to conform to a particular form or style, provided that it has a speculative element or engages imaginatively with the possibilities of Elsewise.
Art
We welcome speculative visual 2D art in any medium.
Artwork may be submitted as individual pieces or as a small series. Please include the title of each work and the artist’s name.
Because Elsewise will be produced in print, please submit images at a resolution suitable for high-quality reproduction:
300 dpi (300 ppi) at the intended printed size is recommended.
For example, an image intended to appear at 8 × 10 inches should ideally be supplied at approximately 2400 × 3000 pixels or larger.
Please submit the highest-quality version available. Do not enlarge a low-resolution image simply to reach 300 dpi, as this does not increase the actual detail available for printing.
Previously Published Work
Reprints are welcome.
If your work has previously appeared elsewhere, please tell us where and when it was published when you submit it. You must have the right to grant Elsewise permission to reproduce the work.
Simultaneous Submissions
Simultaneous submissions are welcome.
If you submit your work to Elsewise while it is under consideration elsewhere, that’s fine. However, please let us know as soon as possible if the work is accepted by another publication.
Payment
Elsewise Magazine is currently unable to offer monetary payment for accepted work.
Contributors will receive publication in Elsewise Magazine and full credit for their work.

A Few Things to Bear in Mind
Please submit finished work rather than proposals or pitches.
We do not require a cover letter, but do include in the body of your email a brief bio written in third person using the name under which you are publishing.
Please make sure that you have the necessary rights to the work you submit.
By submitting, you are giving Elsewise Magazine permission to reproduce your work in the magazine and in associated promotional material. Copyright remains with the creator.
We do not accept content which promotes hatred towards any non-fictional group/community.
We will contact you by email if we would like to publish your work.
We are a small independent publication, so please be patient while we consider submissions.
Sincerely,
The editors
